NYC Transit Bot — Terms of Service

Effective date: July 31, 2026

NYC Transit Bot ("the Service") is a text-message and web-based service that provides upcoming arrival times for New York City subway and bus stops. By texting the Service or using the web interface, you agree to these terms.

1. The Service

Send the Service a message with a subway station name, a bus stop, or a 6-digit MTA bus stop code, and it replies with upcoming arrival times. You can also ask for transit directions between two places. The Service is a personal, non-commercial project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Twilio, Anthropic, or Mapbox.

2. Messaging terms

3. Third-party processing

To interpret natural-language requests, the content of your messages is processed by Anthropic's Claude API. Your use of the Service is therefore also subject to Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service, Usage Policy, and Privacy Policy.

When you ask for directions, the place names or addresses in your request are geocoded using Mapbox's Geocoding API, subject to Mapbox's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Messages sent by SMS are additionally carried and processed by Twilio and your mobile carrier under their respective terms.

4. No warranty

Arrival times are derived from publicly available MTA realtime data feeds and are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Realtime predictions can be wrong, delayed, or unavailable. Do not rely on the Service for safety-critical decisions. The Service may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time without notice.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service for anything other than looking up transit information, and not to attempt to disrupt, overload, or reverse-engineer it.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of the Service is not liable for any damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including missed trains and buses.

7. Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time; the current version will always be available at this page.
